After four years of severe punishment in sun and, of course, in rain ...

... the exhaust started to show some wear in the form of little cracks.

My 425km trip to the Nitrolympics at Hockenheim (D) turned out to be the last straw: little cracks became big ones.

I was fortunate to meet Eddie Duine (l). According to his friends he is the best stainless steel welder ever. Okay ... prove it!
  I disassembled the exhaust ...
... and gave it to Eddie for a decent restoration.

I asked him to make some pictures of the process, which he did.

First he removed the old welds and stitched the cracks with small fresh ones.

The secrets of Eddies Everlasting Welds:
1. fill the exhaust with inert gas so the inside won't burn;
2. add metal to the welds for more strength.

He not only repaired the cracks; while at it he did all the exhausts edges at the front ...
... and at the back.
I wanted the welds to look subtle (read: be invisible) so Eddie took the sander; it's a cruel job but someone has to do it ;-)
Finally: the polishing part. I did not ask him to do that but the man has his pride.
Stop it, Eddie! Enough is enough!
  I don't know who this guy is but I suppose it wasn't all blood, sweat and tears.
  I think it was all worth the trouble; this exhaust is better and stronger than ever.

Eddie made a solid package and send it to me. The postman only rang once ;-)

A job well done.
