July 2003 I got a call from journalist Andy Willsheer asking me to show my bike at two German shows: the famous Essen Motorshow and the - not so well-known - CMT 2004 at Stuttgart. Read my report on Essen here.
CMT stands for 'Caravan Motor Touristik': like Essen, not a real bikeshow. This one's focused on spending motorized holidays.
First trip with my new trailer, built by Klaus Sarembe. The trailer is extra solid to be 'V8-bike proof'. It did its job very well with the featherlight CBX INOX ;-)
My sister Cécile (here hidden behind the bike) accompanied me during the 1,080 km trip to Stuttgart.
I put the bike in a hall called 'the lobby'. It looked a bit dejected, but that was about to change.
In the hall I met Wolfgang Schöller. His job is to scout interesting bikes from all over the world; must be a nice job. He's the organizer of the bike exhibitions at Essen and Stuttgart.
As mentioned before CMT is not about bikes. Actually it's more about motor homes; not quite my cup of tea. The purpose of the bikes at the CMT is to entertain the visitors and show them other interesting means of transport.
Like the Essen Motorshow this show attracts a lot of visitors.
Malcolm Green showed his 'Reliant Rodent' like he did in Essen. The doll wasn't very interested though and looked the other way.
The gilded 'Xeno III' was present as well. Here too the doll looked away.
'My' two dolls at least showed some interest.
Next to my bike was the winner of Le Mans 24h.
My nephews Pieter and Tom were very pleased to hear their oncle's bike is in the same room as their F1 favorite Kimi Raikkonen (vague in the middle).
Okay, this one's for you two.
Being a Schumi fan, I was pleased to see his Ferrari in the lobby as well.
The way back (accompanied by my girlfriend Frederiek) was quite hazardous: snow, rain, dense fog and - worst of all - salt! Trailered or not, I've got a lot of cleaning up to do. |
